Five Things to Know About Me
Welcome to my masterfully-crafted blog. Let's get right down to it.
My name is Hannah L. Ackerman. I'm a 23-year-old American finishing my Bachelor of Arts in Editing & Publishing from Brigham Young University, and for the past year I have been drafting my first debut novel. I've been writing for as long as I can remember, etc, and this blog will function as a place for my friends and followers to read about my author-y endeavors. I'm a highly creative person with a million projects and hobbies, so it's easiest to sort them out into different channels. Welcome (imagine me gesturing grandly) to my creative writing space.
Five things about me to kick off the author blogging endeavors:
1. I love deadlines, especially the whooshing bit of air I feel as they go flying right past me.
2. I believe that language is one of the most powerful things we can wield, and that stories are the most inexhaustible source of magic.
3. I love imagery and worldbuilding. I aim to write each scene and character the way you might experience them in a painting. Preferably in a nice art museum somewhere. Like the Louvre. Or my house.
4. Books are the easiest way to become both broke and immortal, which are two of my greatest life goals. Thus writing seems to be an appropriate pastime.
5. I'm 56,000 words into the first draft of my debut novel, which is a Viking-esque retelling of the legend of Atlantis. Think Hunger Games (Suzanne Collins) meets Court of Thorns and Roses (Sarah J. Maas) and marries Rebecca (Daphne du Maurier) but then secretly gets together with Eragon (Christopher Paolini). Tropes: chosen one, reluctant hero, taverns, antagonist turned ally, hidden truth, pseudo-European Medieval world, evil overlord, etc.
Bonus bio bits: I'm happily married to the cutest guy. We go on adventures with Pippin the barn cat and Jack of Spades the Aussie pup. We play D&D on Thursdays.
